The following are notes on some of the software that is used on the seminaries. These pages do not replace each program or system's own help or documentation; rather, they provide additional help or specific notes on how the seminaries use the software.
Knowing how to use your wordprocessing software well will save you much time and frustration. Here are a few tips that might help.
All seminary students and employees are issued email addresses and passwords by Earlham Computing Services. SCS also provides a variety of email 'mailing lists' for various segments of the seminary community (students, staff, faculty, etc.). Email is commonly accessed either through Webmail or an email client installed on your computer.
Welcome! You are most likely here because you have received a username and password from Seminary Computing Services, and are wondering what to do with it. You've come to the right place! First, make sure you remember your username; it will be with you throughout your career here – please remember it! This username/password combination is your key to all seminary and Earlham resources to which you have access.
There are three other things which you should do to get yourself off to a good start:
The seminaries use Moodle to provide space for courses to exist online.
OpenGroupware.org (OGO) is the seminaries' web-based calendar solution. It allows faculty and staff to maintain their personal calendars, and to share events and calendars within the seminaries.
In addition to our web services, SCS maintains file servers to facilitate the work of seminary employees. Normally, this is transparent to users, but if you have trouble connecting to the servers, check here to see if your question is answered!
Mozilla Firefox is installed on all seminary computers, and is the web browser SCS recommends to all students, faculty, and staff for their own computers (seminary websites are designed to work well with all modern web browsers, but we like Firefox best!)
The seminaries use the Adobe Acrobat Connect system to provide online webcasts and conferences, allowing persons at a distance to see, hear, and even participate in events and meetings. To use the system, you will need the following:
