    Sending email through Earlham's server

    Q. How do I set up my email client software to send mail through Earlham's server when I'm not on campus?

    A. Off-campus users can only send mail through Earlham's mail server using an encrypted connection. To do so, you will first need to import the College's certificate authority into your
client program - see http://www.earlham.edu/twiki/bin/view/ECS/SslCertificates for the certificate address and import instructions for various programs.

Next, you'll need to set up your client to send mail through mailer.earlham.edu, port 587, using TLS and your Earlham username and password. For example, to set this up in Mozilla Thunderbird:

    1. Click Tools > Account Settings.
    2. Select Outgoing Server (SMTP).
    3. If you're setting up the EC server for the first time, click "Add...". If you already have an entry for mailer.earlham.edu, select it and click "Edit...".
    4. Fill in the server information as described above:
      • Server Name: mailer.earlham.edu
      • Port: 587
      • Use name and password: yes
      • Username: your Earlham username
      • Use secure connection: TLS
    5. Click OK, then OK.
