    Here's the latest phishing scam directed at Earlham email users - my comments are in bold:


    Sender: bporter11 @cogeco.ca (While we love our friends to the north, neither SCS nor ECS typically uses Canadian email addresses for our work.)
    From: "Mail.Ecs.edu" <accountupdate2008.edu> ("accountupdate2008.edu" isn't even an email address!)
    Reply-To: "Mail.Ecs.edu" <accountupdate2008.edu>
    Subject: Quoting Earlham.edu, Member.Services@Earlham.edu (I don't even know what this means in this context...)

    Dear Earlham.edu email account user, (If this was us, we would know your name!)

    We are currently verifying our subscribers email accounts in other to increase the efficiency of our webmail futures. (Our webmail futures? If it doesn't make sense to you, don't trust it!)

    During this course you are required to provide the verification desk with the following details so that your account could be verified. (If this was really from the folks who controlled the emil servers, they would be able to check login records to see if you've been using your account.)

    Country or Territory:...................

    Kindly send these details so as to avoid the cancellation of your email account. (Here's the threat, however gentle, to try to scare you into a quick response before you think about it. We will not turn off your account with advance warning, or at least a very good and clearly explained reason.)
