    Lab Angels

    Tasks and Responsibilities

As a lab angel working your shift your primary responsibility is to assist other people working in the lab; this should always be your top priority. However, if no one is asking for your help, is it OK to just study or work on your own papers or projects? Not really. You're in the lab to work and there are a number of other things you should be doing to help out.

To transfer a call in the lab

    • Tell the caller that you are goint to attempt a transfer and that they should hold the line. You may want to ask for their number so you can call them back if you end up dropping the call. (Use the SCS office phone if it's long distance.)
    • Hit flash (or press and release the switch hook).
    • Dial the extension of the person you want to xfer to.
    • When they answer, introduce the call (e.g., "I have Soe Andsoe on the line; I'm going to tranfer her to you." *
    • Hit flash (or the switch hook) again.

    "Lab Angels"

A number of part time student employees and volunteers provide instruction and support in the lab, work on special projects, and help to shape and inform SCS procedures and policies. These workers, mostly ESR Cooper scholars and Bethany students fulfilling their TAP requirements, have come to be known as "Lab Angels."
