In an attempt to block unwanted emails from being delivered to your inbox, Earlham College has implemented a system known as the Barracuda Spam and Virus Firewall. Barracuda operates on a point system, meaning that it analyzes each email that passes through the system and quarantines those that match enough criteria points to be considered spam. Sometimes though, Barracuda will catch emails that are not spam. An issue exists when trying to have these emails delivered.
If you open the summary email, you'll notice that next to each email there are four options: deliver, whitelist, delete, and view. If you are unsure of an email, choose view to see if it's what you believe it to be before clearing it. If the system has captured an email from an address you know and trust, you can choose whitelist. This tells the system to allow this email to pass through from now on, so you don't have to remove it from your spam filter again and again. Messages are held in the system for 14 days, so make sure you check your quarantine summary to make sure you are not missing anything important.
There is a known issue when trying to access the Barracuda management page. When you click on one of the four links mentioned above, it will attempt to open the Barracuda management interface in your default web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari). Lately, users have been met with an error complaining that the security certificate is invalid. There is a way around this. The link below contains step-by-step instruction to walk you through creating an exception for this page.
